Project Description:
My project would be to develop
a new Information Systems Technician Apprenticeship School (IT “A” School) for the United States Navy and locate
the school in Pensacola, FL. The Navy has proposed a move in location from Great Lakes, IL to Pensacola, FL already and the
curriculum from the IT “A” School is being rewritten in the process. I would change the curriculum to a more challenging
A+ type training for the school and also add a good bit of computer based training modules for the new students. Before I
can add the entire new curriculum, I would configure an internal LAN onto the Center for Information Dominance Headquarters
base onboard Corry Station in Pensacola, FL. The LAN would be internal with an internet connection for the CBT curriculum
which would be on the Navy Knowledge Online website, which can be tracked for grades and status of where the students are
at in the curriculum. Besides the classroom environment, I would also create a hardware lab and a networking lab, so the students
will be able to take apart computers and put them back together as well as create an internal LAN from scratch and learn to
troubleshoot a network. Inside the classroom, the workstations would have a virtual radio room attached to the server which
the students would be able to connect to as if they were actually inside of a radio room onboard any ship in the Navy as the
IT “A” school consists of not only training on networking/computers but also message trafficking and circuits.
The VRR would give the students some on the job training for the fleet in message trafficking and circuits. The school would
be 11 weeks long which consists of 7 weeks working on the networking side, and 4 weeks of working on the message traffic side.
The strategic plan will be based on my experience with building networks for classrooms and a classroom environment
plus my experience with the Information Systems Technician curriculum.
The key stakeholder will be the Center for
Information Dominance who decided to move the IT “A” school from Great Lakes, IL to Pensacola, FL and make the
curriculum better. They have spent tons of money on contracts for the computer based training modules and building a more
technically advanced classroom setting for the new students.
My project would provide a written report and step by
step project plan to how the move from Great Lakes to Pensacola with new curriculum would be developed.
I am interested
in this project because I am currently heading this up for the United States Navy at this point. By doing this project, it
would allow me to plan the project more efficiently and hopefully produce a better IT “A” school for new students
in the future.

Tasks Task 1: Research the contractors that will create the new curriculum for the new IT “A” School Task
2: Research the cost of new equipment (workstations for students, servers for each classroom, software, etc.) Task 3: Research
how many students the navy will send through IT “A” school and determine the number of instructors needed.
Decisions
For Task 1, the only problem that came up was the contractors that were picked first, performed the task but material was
not sufficient…. So, we decided to pick a new contractor. For Task 2, the cost fell below what was originally projected.
Task 3, the number of students for any given time will never exceed 528 as we have 12 classrooms setup on a 2 shift schedule
that can hold up to 22 students at one time. With that number of students, we will need to have 30 instructors in place once
IT “A” school is up and running.
Learning :
1) What helpful feedback did you get in the class (instructor, classmates) and outside the class (user, stakeholder,
beneficiary, mentor, expert advisor, others)? What did you learn from this feedback?
2) What resources did you use
this week (e.g., people, money, equipment, systems, or software)? Did you add new resources? What was your learning?
3)
What research did you perform this week that was assisting and/or literature based? What was your learning?
Indicators
: 1) How well did you stick to your project schedule? Very strict
2) How prepared are you to conclude your project
in Unit 10 as required in this course? Very prepared
3) How likely is it that you will need to resort to your contingency
plan? Very unlikely, but will if needed.
